5 Celebrities That Knew 2Face Planned Nationwide Protest Wasn’t Going to Work

By  |

When Nigerian legendary singer, 2Face Idibia announced that he would be leading a nationwide protest against the federal government over its inefficiency come February 6, some certain celebrities were quick to make it clear they weren’t behind the multiple award winning singer. Although 2Face was able to garner the support of over twenty-five other celebrities, these five were outspoken in condemning the planned protest which has now been cancelled.

Femi Kuti who is a veteran Afrobeat singer and the son of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was one of the first people to slam the protest and said he wasn’t in support of it. According to the Grammy nominated Femi Kuti, he would only come out to support the planned protest which was slated for February 6 if the African Queen hit maker can come out to say those planning the protest.

At the time when Blackface first spoke out against the planned nationwide protest, many felt that he was only being envious of his former bandmate. An outspoken celebrity himself, Blackface questioned 2Face on why he didn’t protest during the former government of Goodluck Jonathan especially considering there were grounds for protest back then as well. Blackface even went as far as insinuating that 2Face is a corruption apologist.

Controversial Nollywood actress Stella Damasus took to Facebook to refer to the protest as irrelevant and in her post, she had said she would rather spend her time on more important things than a protest. She also said that before protesting, one must have a clear focus. That was harsh but it was as if she knew that 2 Face was all bark and no bite.

One of Nigeria’s foremost comedians, Bovi didn’t out rightly say he wasn’t in support of the protest but he did make it clear he wouldn’t be attending it either. He also called 2 Face’s attention to the use of pronouns like, ‘we’ and ‘us’ as he said his life is not governed by the opinions of others about him.

Nollywood actress cum politician Funke Adesiyan was also another famous face who quickly took to social media to make it known that protesting is nothing but a waste of time. She said one of the reasons she joined politics was so she could make a difference as she was tired of the status quo. She said protesting won’t solve anthing but rather the youths need to take active part in governance.

While these five celebrities were against 2Face’s protest, the likes of Davido, Burna Boy, Charly Boy, Solidstar, Annie Idibia, Wizkid, Olamide, Timaya, Yemi Alade, Rugged Man, Tekno, Ice Prince among many others were some other popular people who supported him all the way.
